Biography

Dr Ana Stančić is a principal research fellow at the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” – National Institute of Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade. Her research interest includes the investigation of the molecular basis of redox mechanisms involved in specific physiological/pathological states, especially diabetes mellitus. The main focus of her current research is on the disturbances in iron metabolism and ferroptosis as well potential use of redox-active pharmaceuticals in the treatment of diabetes and its related pathologies. She gained significant experience in research of redox-related mechanisms underlying the regulation of β- cell functionality/mass in vivo, including the possibility of an increase (or prevent decrease) of the β-cell population in a diabetic state by the specific redox-based therapy. Her experience with laboratory animals and pancreas/islets isolation and examination is indispensable in providing fast and accurate results, as well as data analyses. Dr Ana Stančić has published 55 papers in international peer-reviewed journals in the research area, which were cited 1347 times (h-index = 21, Scopus); was a PI for one bilateral cooperation of Serbia and Spain (201 -2012), an investigator in Serbian Science and Diaspora Collaboration program (2020-2023), three national research projects (2004-2019), Serbian-Austrian bilateral project (2022-ongoing), MC member of one and participant of four COST actions, invited speaker at 3 international conferences, member of the organization board for two congresses, abstract book editor, a guest associate editor in one international scientific journal and was awarded three times (Award of Norway Kingdom for the best 100 students of the Belgrade University, 2003; Goran Ljubijankić foundation for the best MSc (2006) and PhD (2008) thesis in molecular biology, Belgrade). She is engaged as a PhD lecturer at the University of Belgrade and has supervised 3 PhD and 5 diploma/master theses.
